Peruʻs product offering is wide and varied, she added: “We have gastronomy, we have luxury, we have MICE product, we have adventure.”
Canadians seek immersive, culturally rich experiences and adventure-filled escapes, making Peru’s diverse landscapes and bucket-list destinations – including Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, and Lake Titicaca – more relevant than ever, she added.
In 2024 Peru welcomed 3.2 million travellers. “That’s good, but still a little bit down from 2019, by about a million people. So we’re still recovering,” noted Cardenas. “That said, visitation was up 29% in 2024 versus 2023.”
From Canada, Peru welcomed more than 75,000 visitors in 2024, up 60.5% compared to 2023. Canada is Peru’s ninth biggest market.
“Why Peru? It’s one of the world’s most megadiverse countries. It’s home to 13 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It’s also a global gastronomic destination,” said Cardenas.
He added that in Peru sustainable travel and community tourism, “is authentic and spontaneous. You can find the real thing in Peru.”
