Police find elderly couple dead in US Virgin Islands vacation home

AMALIE, Virgin Islands – Authorities in the U.S. Virgin Islands say an elderly couple visiting from the U.S. mainland has been found stabbed to death in a rental home.

A Monday evening statement issued by the police says investigators have discovered the bodies of a 73-year-old man and his 67-year-old wife in a vacation home.

They have not disclosed the slain couple’s identities or hometowns pending notification of relatives. They would only say the elderly husband and wife was from the U.S. mainland.

Police say detectives are “following a series of very strong leads” and are searching for a person of interest.

The bodies were found in Sapphire Bay resort area of the U.S. territory’s main island of St. Thomas.
