Demand for international routes has been “surprisingly strong” given the circumstances, says Air Canada, but if Canada doesn’t reciprocate global entry privileges soon, we could see more ...
SAN FRANCISCO — Airbnb has expanded its Airbnb Experiences day trip offering with Airbnb Adventures, where hosts put together multi-day packages that combine touring and sightseeing with accommodation.
“Hosts are the providers of Adventures: they arrange their own Adventure, control when and where they host, the itinerary, where they stay, what services they offer, and what they charge,” according to Airbnb.
That sounds a lot like what a travel wholesaler does.
Airbnb is launching Airbnb Adventures with an ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ trip across six continents, 18 countries, two oceans, five seas and eight modes of transportation – for US$6,651 per person.
While it appears that some trips will be planned and hosted by individual Airbnb hosts, others will be operated by established tour operators. The ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ trip is operated by California-based adventure travel specialist MT Sobek.
Airbnb says Airbnb Adventures has 200+ available trips globally at launch, with more coming by the end of the year. Trips are in small groups with a maximum capacity of 12 guests or less. Airbnb says the median price of an Adventure is US$588 for a three-day trip. “Hosts offer Adventures under a range of budgets from $79 for an overnight trip up to $5,000 for once-in-a-lifetime 10-day treks. Adventures covers a wide breadth of activity ranging from active to foodie, farming to camping, music to animals – always with a strong element of local community.”
