Volcanic ash forces cancellation of flights to/from Bali

Volcanic ash forces cancellation of flights to/from Bali

TORONTO — Travellers’ plans are going up in smoke – or rather ash – due to a rather hot-tempered volcano on the island of Bali.

All Virgin Australia flights to and from Denpasar airport (DPS) have been cancelled today due to ash from Mt Barujari, a volcano on neighbouring Lombok island. Mt Barujari started spewing ash on Oct. 25 after a small eruption, reports visiontravel.ca.

Jetstar also reported the cancellation of three flights to Bali and three flights out early this morning, while Virgin cancelled five flights to Bali and five flights flying back to Australia.

On the ground, hikers have been evacuated and all trekking in the popular Rinjani National Park has been stopped. Affected passengers have been told to stand by for updates.
