VIDEO: We talk to Sebastien Dubois about the new Canada Specialist program

TORONTO — Travel agents are selling more Canada, this summer and potentially into the fall and winter too. And Destination Canada wants to help them do it.

Destination Canada has launched a new landing page for agents, CanadaSpecialist.ca, as part of its Canada Specialist program for travel advisors. The French-language version is at specialistesducanada.ca.

Asked if Canadian travel agents are finding their way to the site, Sebastien Dubois, Executive Director, Industry Partnerships, Destination Canada tells Travelweek Editor Kathryn Folliott in this video interview: “I hope so! We just launched it so this is great timing, to help get the word out. They may not be aware of it.”

In normal times, says Dubois, Destination Canada is focused on attracting international visitors to Canada. But with COVID-19, the federal tourism marketing association has had to pivot a bit, just like everyone else. “In mid-March we paused everything internationally,” he says. “We thought, if we can get Canadians to travel within Canada, that can help save the industry.”

The new landing page includes plenty of content, including packages and more, and offers province-by-province webinars too, with more added on an ongoing basis.

More details are in the video, plus check out  CanadaSpecialist.ca and specialistesducanada.ca.

Destination Canada has also created an Interactive Map that shows current travel restrictions and self-isolation requirements by province and territory. Other resources include 10 tips for Canadians to keep in mind as they plan their travel. There’s also the consumer site www.keepexploring.ca.
