A bird? A plane? Emirates releases video of jetpack daredevils

[VIDEO] A bird? A plane? Emirates releases video of jetpack daredevils

The future is now, at least according to Emirates.

The airline has released a video showing two daredevils strapped to jetpacks flying alongside an Emirates A380 over the Dubai skyline. The video, which was meant to showcase “just how far aviation has come”, was shot from a helicopter at a height of 1,500 feet.

Yves Rossy and Vince Reffet, or the “Jetmen of Dubai”, were deployed from a helicopter that hovered above the aircraft at 5,500 feet, then conducted hair-raising formations on both sides of the plane before joining on one side and breaking away. They sported custom-built flight suits that weighed almost 55kg, with wing spans of two metres.

“This display between man and machine celebrates the magic and beauty of flight, a feat which just over a hundred years ago would have seemed an impossible dream,” said Adel Al Redha, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer for Emirates. “It also showcases how far human vision and ambition has, and can continue to push aviation’s boundaries.”

The stunt, which was filmed last month, was not the first to be attempted by the duo, reports The Daily Mail. Both daredevils soared above Dubai’s skyscrapers back in May, at speeds of up to 125mph.
