Ireland road trips are on the rise, says RIT Vacations

TORONTO — With St. Patrick’s Day sparking renewed interest in travel to Ireland, RIT Vacations is reminding travellers that perhaps the best way to explore the Emerald Isle is by taking to the open road.

The Canadian tour operator, which specializes in travel to Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, says self-drive holidays are becoming one of the fastest-growing ways to experience Ireland. This surge in interest comes at a milestone moment for the company, which is marking its 25th anniversary this year.

According to Jonathan Sargeant, Director of Sales at RIT Vacations, many travellers are embracing a slower approach that allows them to spend several days exploring individual regions.

“Ireland is perfectly suited for road trips. Travellers can follow winding coastal roads, stop in small villages and spend more time exploring landscapes that make Ireland one of the most beautiful destinations in the world,” said Sargeant.

RIT Vacations says its driving holiday itineraries are designed to combine the flexibility of independent travel with curated routes, handpicked accommodations and local expertise. Among the areas drawing interest are the Dingle Peninsula, Connemara, Killarney and Galway.

The Dingle Peninsula is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s most spectacular coastal regions, offering dramatic Atlantic views, historic sites and deep connections to traditional Irish culture. Connemara, meanwhile, offers a rugged landscape of mountains, lakes and quiet villages on the west coast. Killarney, in County Kerry, serves as the gateway to Killarney National Park and the famous Ring of Kerry driving route. And Galway, located on Ireland’s west coast, offers a lively contrast with its vibrant arts scene, music culture and historic streets. The city is also an ideal starting point for travellers heading onto the Wild Atlantic Way, one of the world’s longest defined coastal touring routes.

“As travellers look for more authentic ways to experience destinations, road trips offer the flexibility to slow down and truly connect with a place,” Sargeant added. “Ireland is one of the best destinations in the world for that kind of travel.”
