MISSISSAUGA — TICO’s newly enhanced Certification Program has officially launched, featuring modernized features, security tools and a more streamlined interface.
First announced in May 2025, the new program replaces the previous study manual with a fully interactive, online learning experience for individuals aspiring to become Travel Counsellors and agency Supervisors/Managers.
Said TICO CEO Richard Smart: “The new TICO Certification Program puts the learner experience front and centre. It’s been designed to be more interactive, easier to navigate and focused on helping learners understand how Ontario’s travel consumer protection regulations apply in real-world client situations.”
The new Certification Program and exam come at a cost of $150; the exam re-write fee is $50. Individuals who are already certified are not subject to the new fees or requirements. More information can be found here.
Features of the new program include the following:
- It is bilingual, accessible, secure and fully interactive, delivered in collaboration with a leading-edge adult education provider
- It reflects best practices in adult learning and e-learning delivery, moving away from memorization
- The user-friendly platform includes interactive modules, practice materials and questions and reference tools
- It focuses on having learners apply the program’s regulatory and consumer protection content
Features of the new single exam include the following:
- Instead of having two levels like the previous program (Travel Counsellor and Supervisor/Manager), the new program features a single consolidated exam
- The updated program covers key areas such as registration, consumer complaint handling, compliance and enforcement, record keeping and other regulatory responsibilities, giving learners an approachable understanding of Ontario’s consumer protection laws
- The exam content has been designed to eliminate complex legal jargon, using clear, everyday language
