TORONTO — ACTA members have received a warning about a cyber security incident.
According to the July 29 letter, the breach took place in April 2025 and impacted ACTA’s email system.
“I am emailing to inform you that on April 21, 2025, ACTA became aware of a cyber security incident that resulted in unauthorized access to our email system. We acted swiftly, engaging IT and forensic experts to investigate and contain the issue,” said ACTA President Suzanne Acton-Gervais in the letter.
“While some personal data may have been potentially accessed, we are confident that no financial or payment information was involved.
“The information in question is limited to what was stored in your ACTA member profile on or before April 21, 2025.”
There’s a site where ACTA members can log into their account, click their membership and see what information may have been in ACTA’s email system.
“At this time, there is no evidence that your information has been misused. However, as a precaution, we encourage you to follow standard identity protection practices, such as: monitoring your accounts for unusual activity; updating your account passwords; being cautious when sharing personal information.
“We take the security of your data extremely seriously. In response to this incident, we have implemented additional safeguards to further protect your information and have notified the appropriate authorities.”
ACTA members with any concerns or questions are asked to contact ACTA’s Privacy Officer, Avery Campbell.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We value the trust you place in us and remain committed to supporting and advocating for Canada’s retail travel and tourism industry.”
