MONTREAL — With negotiations ongoing – but still with no end in sight – Air Transat says it has no choice but to proceed with a second wave of flight cancellations for today, Dec. 9.
The airline sent out the new info minutes ago.
“Air Transat wishes to provide an update regarding negotiations with the union representing our pilots. Improved offers have been submitted in the past few hours, along with significant concessions, reflecting our determination to find common ground.
“However, in the absence of an agreement at this time, we are compelled and regret to proceed with the cancellation of a second wave of flights scheduled for today,” said the airline.
“We remain at the bargaining table and still hope to reach an agreement during the day to minimize further disruptions to operations, for our passengers and their travel plans. Our priority remains the same: bringing our travellers back home.”
REPATRIATIONS
Starting yesterday, Dec. 8, Air Transat launched its repatriation program aimed at getting as many travellers as possible back home, through the deployment of an initial 4 additional flights and increased capacity on certain routes.
“This morning, three new flights to southern destinations were deployed using larger aircraft. Unfortunately, three southbound flights scheduled later in the day had to be cancelled, and one flight was moved up in anticipation of the orderly shutdown of our operations. Passengers originally booked on these flights who still wished to travel were accommodated on the additional morning flights,” says Air Transat.

Now on Dec. 9 “we are … forced to cancel a second wave of flights scheduled for today and tomorrow,” says the airline.
