Minister MacCharles slated to attend TICO AGM June 20

TORONTO — Ontario’s Minister of Government and Consumer Services Tracy MacCharles will be on hand to address stakeholders at TICO’s Annual General Meeting on June 20.

The AGM starts at 1:30 p.m. at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre at 4141 Living Arts Drive.

“With the Ontario Government’s comprehensive review of the Travel Industry Act and Regulation underway, these are both exciting and challenging times for the travel industry and TICO,” said TICO CEO and Registrar, Richard Smart.

“We are very honored to welcome Minister MacCharles to TICO’s AGM and look forward to her providing her remarks on Ontario’s consumer protection initiatives and future government priorities.”

Smart said he encourages Ontario travel industry stakeholders including travel agents and tour operators “to mark their calendars” and attend TICO’s AGM.

A long-awaited review of the Ontario’s Travel Industry Act was finally given the green light by the provincial government in 2016. The goal is to update and modernize the consumer protection legislation, strengthen consumer protection and reduce burden on business. “[The] industry has been asking for a review for some time and TICO is looking forward to working with the Ministry and engaging stakeholders in ensuring a strong consumer protection framework for the future,” said TICO at last year’s AGM.
