Man pleads guilty to seven counts of operating as travel agent

Nazimuddin Kazi plead guilty to seven counts of operating as a travel agent without registration contrary to section 4(1)(a) of the Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002. He operated in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario. Prior to the sentencing hearing, Kazi paid restitution to all but one consumer. The following sentence was imposed: 30 days imprisonment, served intermittently, starting July 4, 2014; probation for a period of six months, with the following conditions: to report to the probation officer, to pay restitution of $3,325 to the consumer by Dec. 31, 2014, not to sell travel services or otherwise be employed in the travel industry, in any capacity whatsoever. Kazi has also been charged with fraud under the Criminal Code of Canada. Those charges are still before the Court. This is the second conviction of Kazi under the Act. On July 19, 2006, he was convicted of seven counts of failing to properly maintain a trust account and two counts of operating without registration. Kazi was sentenced to pay a fine and restitution.
