Intrepid Travel and Lonely Planet launch new carbon-neutral trip range

TORONTO — Intrepid Travel has teamed up with Lonely Planet to launch a new range of carbon-neutral tours.

Lonely Planet Experiences will comprise, from launch, 200 day tours that will be operated by Intrepid’s day-tour company, Urban Adventures, as well as over 130 multi-day itineraries ranging from walking and cycling, to culinary, family and marine adventures.

True to Intrepid’s travel style, all tours will be in small groups with a maximum of 16 travellers, and led by a local leader. They will incorporate local transportation, support locally-owned businesses and, like all Intrepid’s trips, be 100% carbon neutral, which also reflects Lonely Planet’s commitment to responsible travel.

In addition, all tours will include exclusive discounts on Lonely Planet’s guidebooks, free access to Lonely Planet’s flagship ‘Guides’ app, plus additional Lonely Planet insight throughout.

“These experiences combine our expertise to create a new tour range that will support local communities, protect our natural environment and ensure travellers see the world in a responsible and sustainable way,” said James Thornton, CEO of Intrepid Travel. “Lonely Planet helped pioneer access to more authentic and grassroots experiences for independent travellers. That’s why we’re thrilled to be part of the next phase of their growth and helping to make sustainable experience-rich travel a mainstay for travellers everywhere.

Luis Cabrera, CEO of Lonely Planet, added: “Intrepid Travel is widely considered the industry leader in responsible travel and we’re delighted to be partnering with them on Lonely Planet Experiences. The two brands share an unmatched passion for travel and a genuine commitment to responsible travel and we’re proud to combine our expertise to deliver amazing adventures for like-minded travellers around the world.”

The new range of tours will run in six continents, across 65 countries and span from just two hours to 22 days. Feature tours include the two-hour ‘Vintage Las Vegas Arts Tour (starting at US$45), the seven-day ‘Galapagos Experience (from $$948), and the 15-day ‘Explore Egypt (from $1,064).
