CANCUN — With attendees adorned with Marriott’s signature white with a touch of red, the grand opening party for Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort was a lavish affair with plenty of Marriott’s world-renowned hospitality.
Travelweek was on hand to join in the recent festivities and check out the property firsthand.
Marriott Cancun’s grand opening followed the resort’s soft reopening last February. The property closed for a year in March 2023 for renovations. The transformed Marriott Cancun is the first all-inclusive Marriott-branded hotel in the world.
As of fall 2024 the resort had already hosted some 600 room nights for Canadian travellers.
“We’re enthusiastic about expanding our reach within the Canadian market and are actively working on strategies to increase these numbers. To achieve this, we’re focusing our marketing campaigns specifically aimed towards Canadian travellers, highlighting the unique features and benefits of our resort,” said Glaucia Canil, Director of Sales & Marketing for Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort, and JW Marriott Cancun.
FOR FAMILIES, COUPLES, GROUPS AND MORE
Cancun’s hard-partying reputation may be well-earned, but that’s not the scene at Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort. It’s on a quiet stretch of beach, with a prime location in the heart of the Hotel Zone that’s just minutes away from shopping malls and only a 15-minute drive from the airport. Cancun’s famous nightclubs are easy to get to too, but this resort is really about rest and relaxation for those truly looking to get away and unwind.
As Canil puts it: “The main focus is families, couples, groups and friends.”
This is not party central for singles and party animals. Evenings are quiet with the few looking for some excitement heading to Play+Start bar, an ideal location to get karaoke going, even when it isn’t designated karaoke night.
FROM CAMP CLUB FOR KIDS, TO THE ADULTS-ONLY POOL
Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort is the first globally to offer CAMP Club. The child-friendly space offers parents the perfect opportunity to leave the kids in an entertaining environment that will amuse all their senses, while Mom and Dad get some much-deserved time alone.
At CAMP Club, a team of reliable counsellors lead playtime activities, and there are plenty to choose from, including crafts, ziplining, a splatter zone, a theatre with a stage to perform plays and concerts, a library, free play, an interactive sound studio and climbing walls. Guests at the grand opening got together to enjoy making their very own slime.
Not everyone travels as a family, and those clients will be happy to know that the family-friendly resort does a great job catering to guests without kids as well, with amenities including an adults-only pool.
ACCOMMODATION, DINING & WATERSLIDES
Resort guests have four types of standard rooms to choose from: resort view, partial ocean view, premium ocean view and ocean front. There are also four types of suites: executive, Caribbean, Magna and presidential. Magna suites are one-bedroom accommodations that can convert to three bedrooms by connecting to an adjoining room.
There are 450 rooms in total, including 38 suites with balcony and ocean views. Some 124 are premium oceanview rooms that were fully renovated and include turndown service, bathrobes and slippers.
When it comes to amenities, nothing beats a resort with its own water slide – except maybe a resort with TWO waterslides and a mini-lazy river. Plus, the staff does an excellent job of keep guests engaged and entertained. Fun games of beach and pool volleyball are the highlight.
There are six bars and five restaurants to select from. “We pride ourselves on offering an extraordinary culinary experience with our ten diverse restaurant concepts, each providing a unique dining adventure,” explained Canil.
There’s Ono, a two-in-one restaurant featuring Teppanyaki and Izakaya. Hana is the Polynesian grill, an architectural and gastronomic experience. Mo’s pays homage to the golden age of burger counters and shake shops. Cevicheria by La Isla is open-air with pool and tropical landscape views, while Pizzeria by La Isla is a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. Sacbe Beach Shack and Organic & Co. Café & Bakery offer two quicker options.
One of the resort’s standout eateries, Casa Madre, serves authentic Mexican cuisine. Let it be your haven for Mexican delights. The unique sauces, fresh juices, local specialties are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
When paired with staff doing their best to be fun and engaging, it’s an authentic, one-big-family feel chock full of smiles and laughter at Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort.
“Besides being all-inclusive, what sets this property apart is the exceptional warmth and attentiveness of the resort’s hosts, who make every guest feel like family. It’s far more than just the stunning white sand beaches that make it the perfect destination for a memorable getaway,” said Canil.
A MEMORABLE CENOTE TOUR
The resort has an in-house tour agency that offers nearby activities at an extra cost, for example, cenote tours, boat rides and other fun activities. Guests at the grand opening had the opportunity to do the cenote tour at Aquaworld. The landscape and cenotes were beautiful, an excellent choice if there’s only time for one excursion. There was swimming, cycling, zip lines, cliff jumps and more delicious Mexican cuisine.
Keep in mind, guests of Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort, are allowed to use the spa at JW Marriott, which is located next door.
A good opportunity to upsell clients that you’re booking at this resort is the premium bar option for the top-notch liquors.
Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort, offers travel agents with an IATA number a commission of 10%. Reservations must be made direct to qualify.
