“His charisma and humour will be missed”: Industry veteran Duncan Bureau passes away

TORONTO — Duncan Bureau, a 25-year airline and travel industry veteran, has passed away.

Details surrounding his death have yet to be confirmed however, friends and colleagues have taken to social media this morning to express their grief and condolences.

Klosebuy Inc., a Florida-based SaaS platform where Bureau was serving as an Advisory Board member, posted the following message on LinkedIn: 

“Today, we honor the life of our Advisory Board member and friend, Duncan Bureau. Duncan brought insight, integrity and a rare sense of humor that lifted every conversation. His leadership and guidance meant a great deal to Klosebuy, and his impact will stay with us. We extend our deepest prayers and heartfelt support to his fiancée Elizabeth, and to his family during this difficult time. Duncan will be missed by many, including all of us at Klosebuy. His kindness, wisdom and spirit made a lasting mark.”

Close friend Frank Fennell also posted the following on LinkedIn: “Not often in life do you meet someone like Duncan Bureau. He had a brilliant mind and a wicked sense of humour … I’m praying for Elizabeth, his fiancée, and for his mom, who has now endured the unimaginable loss of two sons. RIP my friend. You’ll be missed by so many.”

Bureau, a 25-year airline and travel industry veteran, most recently served as Chief Commercial Officer at Farenexus. Prior to that, he was the Chief Commercial Officer at Canada Jetlines and also worked at Etihad as Senior VP Sales & Distribution. He was perhaps best known for his time as President of Air Canada Rouge from 2018-2019 and VP, Global Sales & Distribution at Air Canada, a role he held from 2014-2018. He also notably spent 10 years at WestJet, from 2002-2012, where he served as VP, Sales & Airline Partnerships, among other roles. 

Travelweek reached out to Air Canada’s Lisa Pierce, VP, Global Sales, this morning for comment, who shared the following message: “We are all very sad to hear the news of Duncan’s passing. His passion for our industry was both inspiring and impactful, and his charisma and humour will be missed. Our thoughts are with all those who knew and loved him.”
