OTTAWA — Canada has issued a travel advisory for Jamaica, warning Canadians to “exercise a high degree of caution” due to increased levels of violent crime.
Updated earlier this week, the advisory reports “violent crime, armed robbery and murder” in several large cities and tourist areas, including parts of Kingston and Montego Bay.
Ottawa is warning travellers of a “risk of becoming the victim of crossfire” in these areas and is advising them to always maintain a high level of personal security awareness, avoid travelling at night, visiting isolated areas and beaches and walking alone, and to go out in groups with people they know.
The advisory lists the following areas as having high incidences of violent crime:
