Jam-Walk returns to Toronto in support of Jamaica’s youth and education

TORONTO — Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation is marking its 20th anniversary in 2026 with the return of its annual Jam-Walk fundraiser, inviting Canadians to support education initiatives in Jamaica.

Set for May 30, 2026, at the Palais Royale in Toronto, the Jam-Walk 5K Walk and Brunch combines community engagement with fundraising efforts aimed at improving access to education for children and youth across the island.

The event has become a signature initiative for the foundation, bringing together individuals, families and teams for a day of philanthropy, music and Jamaican-inspired hospitality. Travelweek took part in last year’s walk, which drew over 100 participants.

At this year’s walk, participants can enjoy a brunch, entertainment and family-friendly activities, all while supporting the foundation’s mission.

Since its founding, Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation has focused on enhancing educational infrastructure, equipping schools with classrooms, kitchens, staff facilities, sick bays and water-harvesting systems to create safe and functional learning environments.

Karl Hale, Founder and Chairman of Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation, highlights the community’s enduring spirit: “Driven by the belief that every Jamaican child deserves a safe place to learn and grow, HHJF continues to mobilize its engaged community to support education and provide opportunities for children in Jamaica.”

To date, the organization has built 27 schools across Jamaica, contributing to improved literacy rates and expanded opportunities for students.

As part of its anniversary year, the foundation is also reviving its Anniversary Voluntourism Trip, scheduled for July 6–12, 2026 to St. Elizabeth. Now in its 20th year, the trip will focus on restoring Fyffes Pen Primary & Infant School, providing a safe learning environment for local children.

In addition to participating in Jam-Walk, supporters are encouraged to get involved through sponsorship, donations or by attending the foundation’s annual Jamrock gala in October 2026.

Registration for the Jam-Walk is now open, with participants able to fundraise individually or as part of a team, reinforcing the foundation’s mission to create better futures through education.
