Canadian travel advisors explore Oregon on Brand USA’s prize FAM

VANCOUVER — Three Canadian travel advisors recently returned from an immersive FAM trip through Oregon, the reward for their winning participation in the “Sell Your Way to the USA” incentive campaign, hosted in partnership with Brand USA.

First announced in January 2025, the campaign included 12 spots for Canadian travel advisors on four FAM trips hosted by Brand USA and seven U.S. destination partners. Participating advisors earned points for every roundtrip Air Canada return airfare booked to the U.S., plus additional points for PNRs, land packages and for completing badges on the Brand USA Discovery Program.

The winners for the Oregon FAM, which took place from May 5-10, 2025, were Michelle MacKenzie of Tier One Travel in Calgary, AB, Misty McKnight of Direct Travel in Regina, SK, and Callan Thompson of Sportscorp Travel in Bolton, ON.

Thomas Moser, Global Sales Manager of Travel Oregon, which hosted the FAM said the organization’s Why Guides program, which encourages visitors to consider a licenced guide or outfitter to provide safe and responsible travel experiences, played a central role on the trip.

“It was very important to Travel Oregon to support the “Sell Your Way to the USA” campaign at a time when we want to re-confirm our commitment to Canadian travel advisors and visitors. Travel Oregon was proud to showcase our Why Guides program to the winners.”

After arriving in Portland and enjoying a welcome dinner and overnight stay, the winning advisors headed out with First Nature Tours, a founding member of the Why Guides program. They explored the Oregon Coast with stops in Astoria and Seaside enroute to an off-season visit to Cannon Beach, visited Oregon’s most popular state parks, enjoyed ocean views at a local brewery, and ended the day with a bonfire and s’mores on the beach.

Next, the FAM headed to Willamette Valley where advisors enjoyed wine tastings at several wineries as well as an immersive cooking class and winemaker’s dinner. Other highlights include Mt. Hood Territory, home to the state’s tallest peak, Timberline Lodge, a National Historic Landmark and home to the only year-round skiing in North America, and a tour of the ‘Fruit Loop,’ a collection of orchards, vineyards and farms. The FAM concluded with a stop in Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area, home to North America’s most concentrated stretch of waterfalls.
