Antigua and Barbuda reports record-breaking visitor arrivals in 2024

TORONTO — Antigua and Barbuda celebrated a milestone year for tourism in 2024, reporting record-breaking visitor arrivals and unveiling key initiatives for 2025.

During a ‘Year in Review’ press conference earlier this week, the Ministry of Tourism and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) announced that the destination welcomed over 330,281 stay-over visitors and more than 823,955 cruise passengers in 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic figures from 2019.

The United States led the surge in stay-over arrivals, with significant growth also recorded from Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

“Our growth in 2024 is a direct result of our efforts to enhance connectivity, expand our accommodation options, invest in human capital, and position Antigua and Barbuda as a key regional hub with two international airports,” said Charles Fernandez, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation & Investment. He also credited industry stakeholders and the tourism authority teams for their collaboration and dedication in achieving this success.

Increased Airlift and Cruise Growth

Antigua and Barbuda saw expanded airlift throughout 2024, with increased service from American Airlines, Delta and JetBlue, as well as the return of Condor and the introduction of Sunrise Airways. British Airways also boosted its service to the destination. Hotel occupancy exceeded 2019 levels, reflecting the growing demand for the island’s accommodations.

The cruise sector also thrived, benefiting from increased homeporting operations led by the Antigua Cruise Port and the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority. Further expansion is expected in 2025, with additional cruise calls set for the first quarter of the year.

Exciting Plans for 2025

Looking ahead, Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority CEO Colin C. James announced several new initiatives for 2025, including the launch of Frontier Airlines’ inaugural San Juan–Antigua service on Feb. 15. Additionally, the country will host its first-ever Antigua and Barbuda Culinary Month in May, featuring expanded culinary events such as Restaurant Week, FAB Fest, Food Forum, and Eat Like A Local.

Other major highlights for the year include the 300th anniversary of Nelson’s Dockyard and Antigua and Barbuda’s role as host of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s (CHTA) Caribbean Travel Marketplace from May 18–22, 2025.

As part of its digital strategy, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority also launched a redesigned website, www.visitantiguabarbuda.com.
