LOS ANGELES — Viking has expanded its fleet in Egypt with the delivery of its newest river ship, the Viking Amun.
A delivery ceremony took place earlier this week at Massara shipyard in Cairo, Egypt, where Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, officially welcomed the ship to the company’s fleet.
“As we continue to expand our award-winning fleet around the world, we are delighted to welcome the Viking Amun,” said Hagen. “These identical sister ships are the most elegant vessels on the Nile, and we are now pleased to offer even more opportunities for curious travelers to explore Egypt in Viking comfort.”
EXPANDING THE FLEET
The Viking Amun accommodates 82 guests in 41 staterooms and is designed specifically for the Nile River. It sails on Viking’s 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary and showcases the line’s signature Scandinavian design, including a square bow and the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace.
The ship is a sister to Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek and Viking Hathor. Along with Viking Ra and MS Antares, these vessels form the foundation of the company’s presence in Egypt. Viking has announced plans to introduce five additional ships in the region within the next two years, bringing its Nile fleet to 12 vessels by 2027.
The delivery of Viking Amun reflects the company’s broader expansion plans. Viking expects to take delivery of 27 more river ships by 2028 and 10 additional ocean ships by 2031. This would bring the fleet to 112 river ships by 2028 and 23 ocean and expedition ships by 2031.
