ONBOARD VIVA ENJOY — There’s more than a bit of buzz around VIVA Cruises these days, especially with the recent launch of its third new-build in just two years, and a fourth already underway.
This emerging player, founded in 2018, is quickly gaining traction in the European river cruise market. The fleet now consists of eight ships, with more exciting expansions on the way.
And with a surging appetite for river cruising, the line is well-poised to meet the increasing demand.
Travelweek recently had the opportunity to experience the brand new Viva Enjoy on its seven-day ʻSea of Tulipsʻ itinerary, sailing roundtrip from Amsterdam.

SHE’S A BEAUTY
This vessel is distinctive. Although it’s the third new-build for VIVA Cruises, it’s also the latest addition to the line.
As a sister ship to Viva Two, the sleek Enjoy is identical in size and guest capacity, accommodating 190 guests. The ship features modern, stylish staterooms and eight suites across three deck levels.
According to Andrea Kruse, CEO and co-founder of VIVA Cruises, there are some subtle differences between the two vessels.
“There are a few small visual variations such as colour, where you’ll still find our signature blue but in a different combination,” she explained. Kruse also mentioned the introduction of black
and white checkered tile flooring in Moments restaurant, reminiscent of an Italian design, as well as a yoga room to compliment the fitness area.
A standout feature is the unconventional open split-level atrium, which creates a sense of light and spaciousness. Moreover, a separate bar and lounge area complement a seamless flow throughout the public areas.
Viva Enjoy will be repositioned on the Danube later this year, making it her primary river and destination. Additionally, the ship will also sail on the Rhine with various itineraries departing from Amsterdam.

UNIQUE SELLING FEATURE
No doubt, clients are seeking new experiences when travelling, and meeting new people from different parts of the world is part and parcel of that.
Based in Dusseldorf, VIVA has noticed a significant shift in passenger diversification in the last two years. In speaking to Travelweek, Kruse touched on some of these insights.
“As we grow, our guests are now over 50% international travellers and, by design, we anticipate this number to be over 60% by next year. Notably, our strongest growth is seen in Scandinavia, at 15%, followed by the U.S., Spain, and Israel, all at 10%,” she said.
Kruse also touched on Canada as a market focus for the company and a natural fit for VIVA. “I think Canadians would be a perfect match with a mix of multicultural backgrounds, multi-languages spoken and a general sense of open-mindedness,” said Kruse.
As such, VIVA presents an appealing value proposition as a premium brand, making it a desirable option for Canadians. It includes three restaurants, an open bar, and one shore excursion at each port as part of its all-inclusive experience, along with various other amenities.
“It’s a very relaxing and calm way of cruising,” said Kruse.
“IT’S IMPORTANT WE TAKE CARE OF OUR ENVIRONMENT”
With a nod to going green, VIVA Cruises has not only embraced this goal, it’s taken it to the next level.
From solar panels to water stations and water bottles to replacing tablecloths with placemats – all are initiatives reflected on the entire VIVA fleet that help drive its sustainability efforts.
And where to go from here?
“By 2026, all Viva ships will be running on HVO biofuel,” explained Kruse. “Although it has increased our retail cost slightly, it’s the right step for our brand.”
Kruse also spoke of specific guest markets driving the change, in addition to other river cruise companies that have also adopted a green direction. With this in mind, Kruse stresses the importance for guests to be able to visually see the sustainability changes implemented on its fleet. For example, biofuel: it’s there, but the guest is unaware.
It will help guests to understand better and appreciate the company’s initiatives, she said.

VIVA BOUTIQUE LUXURY: BRAND WITHIN A BRAND
Next year marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for VIVA Cruises with the introduction of a luxury river cruise experience.
A passionate initiative, led by Kruse herself, VIVA Boutique will offer sailings along the picturesque Seine River in France, introducing a premium division for VIVA Cruises.
As reported by Travelweek last month, Viva Beyond – based in Paris – will be the first ship set to debut for VIVA Boutique in May 2026. It promises guests an immersive and refined way to explore French culture, art, and history, all while blending elegant design with exceptional amenities.
Viva Beyond is designed to accommodate 112 guests, with over 50% of its suites offering luxury accommodation. Each suite will measure 30 square metres and feature walk-in closets along with panoramic views.
According to Kruse, “everything will be sourced locally, from entertainment to farm-to-table food options. There are so many beautiful options in France.”
The luxury line will also focus on unique and elevated land programs, offering experiences from culinary adventures to cultural explorations and beyond.
