Brazil sets record for visitors in 2014

More than 6.42 million international tourists visited Brazil in 2014, a record number and a growth of 10.6% in comparison to 2013. São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro were the main cities of entry, with 2.2 million and 1.5 million visitors, respectively. Additionally, Argentina remains the main source, with 1.74 million visitors, followed by the United States (656,000). The 2014 FIFA World Cup played a major role. In June, when the biggest soccer event in the world was held, Brazil received almost three times the usual number of tourists for that month; from 350,000 in 2013, to more than one million in 2014.
