Best time to go to Disney? On a Sunday, new data says

TORONTO — We all know to avoid huge crowds at Disney on the weekends, and instead go during the week when parks are less busy. But new data shows that this logic may not be so wise.

SAP Digital Consumer Insight has found that Sundays in the summer are the quietest at any Disney theme park, contrary to what many people believe. Even more surprising, Thanksgiving week is actually busier than the week after Christmas, and that more people visit the parks mid-week during the summer months than on the weekends.

According to Jonathan Becher, head of SAP Digital and chief digital officer, the information was gathered by tools that capture mobile moments in and around specific locations, reports Forbes. In this way, they were able to determine how busy the parks were at any given time.

Foot traffic was reviewed at Disney World in Orlando during August 2016 and other key holidays in the past year. Findings include:

  • Thanksgiving crowds were three times larger than those during Christmas and New Year’s week. July 4th is the busiest day of the summer.
  • In three of the four weeks, Sundays were the least busy day while Tuesdays or Wednesdays proved to be the busiest.
  • On Sundays, there is a 40% drop in people compared to Wednesday.
  • Most people pass through Disney Springs, and of the two Disney waterparks, Blizzard Beach is the least crowded.
