TORONTO — A system outage at WestJet that led to widespread flight delays at several Canadian airports earlier this morning has been resolved.
According to media outlets, Toronto Pearson Airport, Ottawa International Airport, Saskatoon International Airport and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport were among those that reported issues at approximately 8:30 a.m. ET on Aug. 12.
In a reply to a customer on X, WestJet confirmed flights were being grounded due to a system error.
According to an email sent to InSauga, the temporary system outage delayed the handover of aircraft from maintenance personnel for scheduled operation. The airline worked quickly to resolve the technological issue.
Around two hours later, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) posted an update on its website, confirming that the temporary ground stop affecting all destination airports for WestJet has been lifted, reports CityNews.
Toronto Pearson Airport also posted on X around 10:30 am ET that the system outage at WestJet has been resolved and that passengers should check their flight status for updates before heading to the airport.
