All Air Canada flights remain suspended until tomorrow afternoon, Aug. 19

MONTREAL — Air Canada says that all flights will remain suspended until tomorrow afternoon, Aug. 19, due to its ongoing labour dispute with its flight attendants.

At present, all flights by Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge are cancelled until the afternoon of Aug. 19, 2025. Air Canada Express flights operated by Jazz or PAL continue to operate as normal.

The airline had previously stated that it would resume flights this evening, on Aug. 18. However, CUPE, which represents 10,000 Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flight attendants, pushed on with a strike on Aug. 17, defying a back-to-work order by the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) issued on Aug. 16. The CIRB declared this morning, Aug. 18, that the ongoing strike activity by flight attendants is “unlawful.”

Air Canada now estimates 500,000 customers will be disrupted as a result.

Customers whose flights are cancelled are being notified of the cancellations and offered options that include a full refund, a future travel credit or rebooking on another airline. Those whose flights are cancelled are strongly advised not to go to the airport, unless they have a confirmed booking on a flight by another carrier.

This is a developing story.
