Atlantic City isn’t letting a sudden downshift in U.S. travel demand stop them from working with travel advisors and spreading the word about its incredible offerings. In fact, the destination is doubling down on its message to advisors, that they’re ready and waiting to welcome their Canadian clients with open arms. In this week’s Take 5, we sit down with Heather Colache, Tourism Account & Film Commission Director at Visit Atlantic City, who shares with us the many alluring reasons to visit “America’s Playground.”
- There’s no denying that Canadian visitation has dropped to the U.S. amid the ongoing trade war. What are you seeing on your end in terms of bookings, and what is your message to Canadian travellers at this time?
“While Canadian motorcoach group bookings have cancelled through June, the outlook for fall is strong and promising. Atlantic City remains a favorite group travel destination, and we look forward to welcoming motorcoach travellers back to enjoy all that our iconic seaside destination has to offer this fall.
“Atlantic City welcomes our Canadian friends! We’re excited to welcome Canadian visitors to our beautiful seaside city. Atlantic City’s warm hospitality, inviting hotels, vibrant attractions, and diverse restaurants are ready to make your stay unforgettable – whenever you’re ready to visit. We look forward to seeing you soon!”
- Most travellers would probably associate Atlantic City with beaches and casinos. What else does the destination offer that travellers would be surprised to learn?
“While most travellers think of Atlantic City for its world-class casinos, the city offers so much more. Food lovers will be delighted by a diverse culinary scene featuring celebrity chef restaurants, beloved local hotspots, and hidden gems waiting to be discovered. For a truly memorable experience, set sail with Atlantic City Cruises for a dolphin watching adventure – the captain even guarantees dolphin sighting or your next trip is on the house! Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning to explore more, Atlantic City guarantees endless celebrations and memory-making moments.”
- What’s new in the destination for 2025?
“I encourage all travel advisors to check out these two links to stay informed on our latest offerings!”

- There’ve been reports of airlines cutting capacity on certain U.S. routes amid declining demand during the trade war. Has this been the case for Atlantic City? How do Canadians get there this summer?
“Atlantic City is an easy drive market, rarely do Canadians fly into Atlantic City International Airport when we are an eight-hour drive from Toronto. Philadelphia Airport is one hour away and has seven nonstop flights from Toronto.”
- The U.S. may be a tough sell for travel agents right now, whose clients are feeling a bit skittish about cross-border travel. What selling tips do you have for them, and how can they stay informed?
“It’s understandable that some clients may be hesitant about cross-border travel right now. The key for travel agents is to stay informed with up-to-date, reliable information from both Canadian and U.S. authorities, New Jersey Office of Travel & Tourism and Visit Atlantic City’s websites. We are focusing on flexibility, value, communication and accessibility.”
