The Canadian travel industry is fuelled year after year by huge volumes of ITC package sales to sun and sand destinations. So does that mean we’re immune to 2019’s travel trends? Not at all.
PUNTA CANA — H10 Hotels has opened the new five-star, 618-room Ocean El Faro resort in Punta Cana, its second property in the popular D.R. hotspot.
Set on the beach at Uvero Alto, the resort owes its name to the lighthouse, built on the beachfront as part of the project, which houses a viewpoint with spectacular views over the ocean and the hotel’s Beach Club, says H10 Hotels.
This is H10’s follow up Punta Cana project, after the Ocean Blue & Sand, and in the coming months it will undergo a new project expansion phase to include El Beso adults-only area, with another 293 rooms.
Upon arrival guests are greeted by an imposing hall with high vaulted ceilings inspired by architecture more reminiscent of a natural history museum than typical resorts. Here guests will find the Lobby Bar with its wide oval bar, as well as the Front Desk and the Piano Bar.
As dining options, Ocean El Faro offers a wide variety with a total of 10 restaurants, seven of them à la carte specializing in Italian, Mexican, Asian, Caribbean and American cuisine, among others, as well as a buffet restaurant featuring international cuisine and another located next to the beach, which during the day offers a light buffet and at night features themed food. It also has large areas set aside for sports with two tennis courts, a multi-sports court and a Dive It! Dive centre, as well as entertainment options including a theater, a nightclub and a bowling alley.

For accommodation the new Ocean El Faro has six types of suites, All spacious and bright rooms equipped with LCD TV, complimentary Minibar, electric coffee machine, in-room safe and a fully equipped bathroom with whirlpool, rain shower, double wash basin, professional hairdryer, scales and magnifying mirror, says H10.
The Swim-Up Junior Suites offer direct access to a pool from their terrace, as do the Rooftop Junior Suites, located on the top floor with a terrace, sun loungers and Jacuzzi.
The resort also has 26 Royal Masters Suites, “spacious rooms that include a bedroom, a separate living room and privileged views of the sea”, and 12 Swim-up Privilege Master Suites, which also have a private terrace with Jacuzzi and offer the possibility of dipping into the pool directly from the room.
