5. Plantation Tours

The feeling you get visiting a plantation is hard to describe. On one hand you have a beautiful setting, but you also have the ever-present history of slavery on display. Tours of the plantations give a perspective of both the families that owned the land and the people who worked the land.

Cajun Encounters offers Oak Alley and Laura Plantation Tour where you visit a Creole and traditional American plantation. The tour picks you up from the downtown core and takes you to Laura, a Creole plantation that is identified by its colourful main house.

The second part of the tour is to Oak Alley Plantation which has the iconic white main house and its famous oak trees that you might recognize from several movies and a certain Beyoncé video.
