Germany numbers strong out of the Canadian market

TORONTO — Travel from Canada to Germany in the first eight months of 2017 was up 6.1% year-over-year and the numbers for August 2017 in comparison to August 2016 more than confirm the indicated growth trend: 20% more Canadians chose to visit Destination Germany than did so in the same month of the previous year.

Says Antje Splettstoesser, the German National Tourist Office’s Director for Canada: “We are extremely pleased with these latest results. They truly endorse the joint marketing approach we have established with our partners in the Canadian travel industry.”

The German statistics refer to overnights spent in German hotels and pensions with 10 and more beds along with recorded stays on campgrounds. Splettstoesser stresses though that the latter contributes less than 1% of the overall Canadian overnights.

Looking towards the upcoming holiday season Splettstoesser says she hopes to see this growth trend continue. “Destination Germany’s reputation for value for money has always stood us in good stead in Canadian eyes. Expect no less at our Christmas markets, many of which will open at the end of November. The holiday spirit there is very seductive – the twinkling lights strung between stalls that sport evergreen boughs, the scent of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts, carols in the air and friends meeting at night – priceless, and all free of charge!”
