Can you guess which U.S. state has just been named the most entertaining?

TORONTO — Some people travel for the culture, others plan entire trips around local food. But if you’ve got clients whose #1 priority is to simply have a good time, you may want to direct them to these U.S. states.

PlayNJ recently unveiled a map that ranks each state according to its entertainment value. Criteria include Things To Do (TripAdvisor activities), theatres, stadiums, gambling, tourism income, theme parks, zoos and overall happiness.

What it found was that, based on these metrics, the state of California can be considered the ‘best state for entertainment’, with top billing in tourism income at US$126.3 billion. California also has 28 theme parks, 13 zoos, 69 stadiums, 26 theatres, 193 gambling establishments and a whopping 1,566 things to do. Plus, it ranked #13 overall in terms of happiness.

Coming in at #2 and #3, respectively, are Texas and Florida. Texas, the only state to win on more than one metric, is the American sports hub and is also home to the most zoos. Florida is just as entertaining, with 13 zoos, 34 stadiums, 35 theatres, 156 gambling establishments and 1,699 things to do.

While the overall winner was California thanks to its high tourism income, the top winners for each metric were much more spread out. These include:

· Happiness: Hawaii was the top ranked ‘happiest’ state

· Casinos: Nevada because, well, obviously

· Theme Parks: New Jersey is the theme park capital of America with 30 in total

· Sports Stadiums and Zoos: Texas won in both metrics

· TripAdvisor’s Things To Do: Florida

· Theatres: Illinois has 98 theatres, four more than the next most successful, Missouri, and 86 more than the worst, North Dakota
