Porter Airlines’ newest destination is the western Pennsylvania city of Pittsburgh, and with partners Fairmont Hotels and Visit Pittsburgh, the airline hosted a three-day media FAM to show that this city is more than just Steel City.

In less than an hour, travellers from Billy Bishop Toronto City Centre Airport find themselves at Pittsburgh International Airport. The twice-daily service launched in September. Twenty minutes later, we’re downtown in a city known for bridges, a passion for sports and its industrial history. After checking in to the welcoming Fairmont Pittsburgh, we’re off to explore.

Taking a Molly’s Trolley tour of the city, the guide peppers us with the famous names of Pittsburgh: Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick and George Westinghouse, while pointing out the traditional and new modern high rises of downtown, before we take the historic Duquesne Incline to see the city skyline.

After a lunch in the downtown Cultural District, we visit one of the city’s most famous cultural museums: The Andy Warhol Museum, one of four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. Warhol was born and grew up in Pittsburgh, and this museum is the largest dedicated to a single artist.

Dinner at stylish Monterey Bay Fish Grotto comes with an unbeatable view of the city. Then it’s time for a dose of hockey at the Consol Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
