Travelweek celebrates 45 years with #1 spot in travel agent readership survey

Travelweek celebrates 45th anniversary with #1 spot in travel agent readership survey

TORONTO — Travelweek has again been named the #1 travel trade publication by travel agents across Canada, by a wide margin. Travelweek’s website, Travelweek.ca, is also #1.

Asked “If you could receive only one of the following print publications for your travel-related information, which would you choose?”, Travelweek was the top choice by a 37-point margin, outpacing all other competitors.

The cross-country survey of Canadian travel agents was taken in December 2017 and January 2018.

As the top news source for the Canadian travel trade, Travelweek was also recognized as delivering the most relevant content to Canadian travel agents.

Using a 7-point scale, and rating competing travel trade print publications, 79% of agents rated Travelweek in the top category for news interest and relevance. And 82% rated Travelweek in the top category as an authoritative source for travel news and information. Travelweek ranked #1 in both questions.

Travelweek’s website, Travelweek.ca, is also #1, topping a long list of competitors based on agent response to the question, “If you could only use one of the following websites for your travel-related news and information, which would you choose?”

Among its competitors, Travelweek is also the most-followed on social media. Travelweek’s social media channels include Facebook, LinkedInTwitter (@TravelweekGroup), YouTube and Instagram.

Travelweek Publisher Gerry Kinasz said Travelweek is firmly focused on its core readership: Canadian travel agents. “Travel agents are an indispensable source of travel knowledge and expertise for Canadian travellers, and in this digital age they are even more valued for the personal service, know-how and on-the-ground troubleshooting skills they provide to their clients,” he said.

“We are proud to once again be named the #1 news source for the Canadian travel trade.”

The 2017-2018 survey results build on Travelweek’s strengths as the #1 news source for the Canadian travel trade going back many years, Kinasz added, from Travelweek’s top ranking in the National Opinion Polls surveys, to the CPHS surveys, to this latest survey.

The Travelweek Group has been keeping travel agents up to date with the latest travel trade news for 45 years. Founded in 1973 as Canadian Travel Monthly, Travelweek was soon re-named CTM Weekly Bulletin, then became Travelweek Bulletin and eventually Travelweek.

In addition to Travelweek magazine, Travelweek.ca and Travelweek Daily, The Travelweek Group also includes the French-language ProfessionVoyages.com, the monthly publication Travel Professional and ENVOY, a distribution and fulfillment company that specializes in providing the travel industry with custom marketing solutions.

The 2017-2018 survey also polled travel agents on everything from ongoing learning opportunities to VR.

Some 39% of agents said they participate in online courses six or more times a year. E-learning courses are the preferred method of learning for 41% of agents, the top choice, followed by webinars.

More than two-thirds of agents said VR has potential as a selling tool for the travel trade.
