TORONTO — Sunwing Vacations is increasing its flight schedule to offer a summer service from Ottawa for the first time.
Beginning May 11, the airline will operate a weekly, direct flight to the popular Cuban vacation destination of Varadero.
The introduction of the direct Ottawa-Varadero connection brings the total number of Canadian gateways available to summer travellers on Sunwing Airlines to seven. The tour operator already offers vacation packages all year round from Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary.
President, Tour Operations for Sunwing Vacations, Andrew Dawson, commented, “Ottawa is an important gateway for us. Over the past winter season, we have successfully operated a program to 12 varied sunshine destinations including Grand Bahama, Fort Lauderdale in Florida and Cancun, Mexico. So we are pleased to be able maintain our operations all year round with the introduction of this new direct flight to one of our most popular vacation destinations, Varadero, Cuba”.
The new flight service will enable residents of Ottawa to experience some of Sunwing’s new and exclusive resorts including Memories Varadero Beach Resort. Part of Sunwing’s Family Collection of properties handpicked for their family-friendly amenities, this beachfront resort offers both a complimentary Baby and Kids Club, together with two children’s pools within the extensive pool complex.
Combining comfortable accommodation with an active schedule of social events and activities, Starfish Cuatro Palmas is another option for laidback family beach time. Children are especially well catered to with kids buffet options, supervised activities and early evening entertainment.
Couples and newlyweds may prefer the Royalton Hicacos, part of Sunwing’s Adults Collection.
Another option could be the latest addition to the Memories Resorts chain, Memories Jibacoa. Designed with families with older children and couples in mind, this 16 years plus resort is located between the rich, cultural treasures of Havana and the lively centre of Varadero. The resort’s situation on Cuba’s northern coastline also lets travellers experience some of the region’s best diving. Together with diving packages, the resort also offers an array of water sports together with a fitness centre and tennis courts.
A week at Memories Jibacoa is available from $565 plus $350 taxes per person based on two people departing from Toronto on June 1 and sharing a Gardenview room on an all-inclusive basis.
