Montreal travel agency and Royal Caribbean to raise $10k to battle cancer

MONTREAL — A Montreal-based travel agency, Voyage Carre Saint-Laurent, has teamed up with Royal Caribbean in hopes of raising $10,000 to help fight leukemia and lymphoma.

Their target is to sell 100 cabins aboard the Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas, which sets sail for the southern Caribbean from March 5-12, 2016. The cruise line will donate $75 while Voyage Carre Saint-Laurent will donate $25 for a total of $100 per cabin booked. Proceeds will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.

According to Cristina Cinquanta, Quebec Campaign Manager for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, funds collected will help patients and researchers and that “75% of every dollar collected goes to researchers,” reported the Montreal Gazette.

Cinquanta also noted that 110,000 Canadians are living with, or are in remission from, leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Blood cancers are the fourth most frequent cancer diagnosis in Canada.

“One person in Canada is diagnosed with a blood cancer approximately every 25 minutes,” added Cinquanta, “and approximately every 75 minutes, someone in Canada dies from a blood cancer.”

Royal Caribbean’s seven-day voyage through southern Caribbean departs from San Juan, Puerto Rico and visits St. Thomas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Antigua, St. Lucia and Grenada.
