CanJet Vacations pays commissions on fuel, currency surcharges

TORONTO — CanJet Vacations is stressing that it pays travel agents commission on fuel and currency surcharges, unlike the majority of its competitors.

A Conference Board of Canada study shows six major tour operators upping taxes & fees by an average of more than 20% this winter.

“We believe travel agents are working hard at brokering the sale on our behalf and they should be paid fairly for their efforts,” said John Kirk, VP, Sales & Marketing for CanJet Vacations.

CanJet Vacations originally included the surcharges in the base price but was forced to change that policy in order to remain competitive on pricing with other tour operators who do not add those charges in the base price. However, CanJet Vacations distinguished itself from the majority of other operators by paying commission on these surcharges, added Kirk.

“The charges are now split out of our price, but are commissionable to agents,” explained Kirk.

He said that due to the shopping nature of the agency booking platforms and the online travel agency sites, the charges cannot be included in the base price or the package appears to be more expensive.

“We believe strongly in the value of the travel agent and we are happy to compensate them fully on everything except taxes,” said Kirk.

Kirk also wants to remind agents that currently, CanJet Vacations has reduced prices on all of its Dec. 18-22, 2014 departures by up to $500 per couple.

CanJet Vacations is available in SIREV, Sabre Vacations and Galileo.
