TORONTO — St. Lucia’s lift out of Canada this summer is “unprecedented” with four weekly flights, says the tourist board’s regional marketing manager, Canada Alison Theodore.

Both Air Canada and WestJet are operating two weekly flights each right through the summer season. “We’ve never had that kind of lift from Canada,” said Theodore last night at a St. Lucia event co-hosted by two of the island’s top properties, Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain, both represented in Canada by Canlink.

St. Lucia got a lot of mileage out of the latest installment of the reality show The Bachelor, as the host island for the final few of episodes.

“Thirty million people watched the final episode,” said Theodore. “The relationship the tourist board has had with The Bachelor has been incredible and the awareness it has created has been invaluable.”

The big proposal took place at Jade Mountain, on the property’s famous Celestial Terrace. Opened in 2006, Jade Mountain has “already reached iconic status in St. Lucia,” says Karolin Troubetzkoy, who together with her husband Nick owns and operates Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet. The luxury property, famous for its Sanctuaries, Infinity Pools (some as large as 900 square feet) and superb dining, was named one of the world’s top three resorts and the number one Caribbean resort in the January 2010 issue of Travel + Leisure magazine.

Clients who book before May 15 get a free upgrade from a bed and breakfast package to an all-inclusive package. Another deal offers a free upgrade in accommodation. Says Troubetzkoy, “we really want to build up the Canadian market.”
