TORONTO — The Canadian Association of Tour Operators is introducing two new membership categories, in response to demand from formerly non-qualifying organizations.

“We have had many queries over the years from companies and organizations wishing to join CATO, and until now, we did not have the membership categories to accommodate these requests,” said Stephanie Bishop, CATO’s Chair. “Our members have agreed we would like to welcome new members in all categories.”

Smaller Tour Operators may now join at substantially reduced costs in the new Associate (non-voting) Member category. Membership was formerly restricted to tour operators with a sales volume over $5 million.

Additionally, Tourist Boards, Tourism Marketing organizations, suppliers of tour-related products and services, as well as other interested tourism-related companies and organizations, may now join CATO in the new Supporting Member category.

Current Active (voting) membership is made up of a majority of the largest outbound Tour Operators, comprising the leading tour brands in Canada.

CATO’s mandate can be found on its updated website, along with Application Form links for potential new members wishing to be considered for membership at www.cato.ca.

CATO was formed in 1986 and represents its members’ interests to domestic and foreign governments. CATO appoints three directors to the Travel Industry Council of Ontario’s board of directors. As well, CATO maintains relationships with other travel and tour operator associations in Canada and elsewhere.
