6) Chicken in the Treme
On your way back from the plantation tour, sweet talk the bus driver into dropping you off at Willie Mae’s Scotch House. Someone on the tour mentioned they wanted to go there and suddenly half the bus also wanted to be dropped off.
The non-assuming restaurant gained fame after being featured in Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations and the chicken definitely lives up to its fame. Beyond the meal we made in the cooking class, this was my favourite meal and also the cheapest.
Be mindful that Willie Mae’s is located in a grittier part of the city. It’s easily accessible though, by taxis and Uber (or plantation tour bus).
