Luxury resort brand Six Senses coming to Costa Rica

NEW YORK — Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas plans to bring its sustainable and high-end luxury footprint to Central America with Six Senses Papagayo, set to open in mid-2021.

Six Senses says it has teamed up with The Canyon Group for the new resort, which promises “new adventure for those seeking love of life and health in a private, eco-conscious and away-from-it-all destination.”

The 930-hectare Papagayo Peninsula is billed as one of the top mixed-use luxury developments in the world, with 24 kilometres of prime coastline, hotels and homes. Even when fully developed, 70% of Papagayo’s land mass will be preserved.

The Six Senses Papagayo site stretches from the highest point (with a 360-degree panorama of the Guanacaste archipelago) to a forested beachfront. Some 41 secluded pool villas will be built along with 31 residences, all about 40 minutes from Liberia International Airport.

The highlight of the resort will be Six Senses’ wellness programming along with a spa, fitness centre and activities (“and inactivities”, says the company). There will be an organic farm located in the heart of the property including fruit, vegetable and herb gardens inspiring the chef’s menus and signature spa treatments. There will also be an emphasis on community and celebration.

“We are very excited about our first project in Central America,” says Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas CEO, Neil Jacobs. “Our own values epitomize Costa Rica’s commitment to sustainability and the essence of Pura Vida (pure life) culture. Everything starts with the question of preserving the natural and cultural heritage of Costa Rica while enhancing social and economic benefits. If we can’t answer it, we don’t do it.

Six Senses Papagayo is owned and under development by California-based The Canyon Group. Among the group’s core portfolio are the Amangiri resort in Utah and Amangani resort in Wyoming.

Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas, part of the IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) family of hotel brands, manages 19 hotels and resorts across 14 countries, plus 37 spas under the brand names Six Senses, Evason, Six Senses Spas and Raison d’Etre. There are a further 18 hotels and resorts signed into its development pipeline.
