New program from Nexion offers free retail travel training to Canadian veterans

Nexion Travel Group – Canada has a new program that provides scholarships for military veterans, to cover the full cost of tuition for training to become an independent travel advisor.

The program launched in the U.S. last year and has had great success with teaching U.S. military veterans the knowledge and skills to open their own travel agency, says Mike Foster, President of Nexion Travel Group-Canada.

Now Nexion is bringing the program north of the border. “It is incredibly exciting to bring Nexion Veterans in Travel to Canada,” says Foster. “We have seen its success and are eager to support Canadian veterans in this venture.”

Recipients of the Nexion Veterans in Travel scholarships will attend the multi-course Travel Leaders of Tomorrow Virtual Campus training program featuring experienced instructors, comprehensive online courses, weekly live instruction in a small study group and guidance in preparing a business plan for their future travel agency.

Tuition for the full program normally costs $2,000, but with Nexion Veterans in Travel, participants will only pay the cost of textbooks.

Nexion Travel Group-Canada and Travel Leaders of Tomorrow are both part of Travel Leaders Group, one of North America’s largest travel agency companies.

“The travel agent profession is a thriving and exciting profession,” added Foster. “It’s an occupation that offers tremendous flexibility and financial rewards. For people with an entrepreneurial bent, becoming an independent travel professional is a great way to own your own business with a minimum of overhead. It also makes use of skills that military veterans have developed, such as attention to detail, international experience, flexibility and problem-solving skills. Nexion Travel Group-Canada is proud to offer this opportunity to those who have served Canada.”

As Jackie Friedman, CTC, CTIE, President of Nexion Travel Group, says: “We are very excited about this opportunity to help Canadian veterans launch an enjoyable and successful new career and to further foster our efforts to give back to our communities and make a positive impact on people’s lives. We encourage others in the travel community to join us in developing employment opportunities for those who have served.”

Foster emphasized that those applying to Nexion Veterans in Travel don’t need to have prior travel agency experience. “What the Travel Leaders of Tomorrow curriculum does is teach participants the business skills necessary to become a travel advisor, and helps them set up a business and marketing plan for their travel agency.” The details are outlined at veteransintravel.com.
