We’re crying happy tears over WestJet’s latest video

CALGARY — If you find yourself smiling a bit more than usual today, or dishing out high fives like nobody’s business, there’s a good reason why: March 20 is International Day of Happiness!

Never one to pass up an opportunity to spread happiness, WestJet and WestJet Cares for Kids, along with charity partner Make-A-Wish Canada, have unveiled a new video that’s bound to bring a smile (and a few tears).

The video tells the inspiring story of Karl, a Cabin Crew member and Make-A-Wish volunteer who, over the last three years, has helped grant five life-changing wishes to deserving families and their children. A few of the people he has directly helped are Lara, a cancer survivor, Wendi and her young daughter Violet, and Delia and her two young children.

All three families remembered the various ways Karl went above and beyond to make them feel special, like surprising them at airport arrival gates, making special onboard announcements, and as Wendi so touchingly recalled, helping her to “remember what it was like to see my child be healthy and happy again.”

To honour Karl and to “wish him a heartfelt thank you for everything he’s done,” says Lara, WestJet and Make-A-Wish brought together all the families to surprise him at the airport with a round of applause and a special gift.

Tears were shed and tributes were paid, and the result? Yet another WestJet video that has left us a sobbing mess. But not to worry, they’re happy tears, and rightfully so on this extra-special Day of Happiness!
