Mumbai airport to cancel 5,000 flights through March

MUMBAI — Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is rolling out weekly flight cancellations to allow for repairs of two of its runways.

Approximately 5,000 flights – domestic and international – coming in and out of the airport will be ‘cancelled’ for six hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between Feb. 7 and March 30, 2019.

The only exception will be Thursday, March 21 when full-day operations will resume.

An average 230 flights will be cancelled on each of these days for a total of 4,8000 cancellations until the end of March.

Morning flights that are delayed and can’t take off or land before 11 a.m. may be grounded or diverted, reports Condé Nast Traveller.

International flights will be put in priority sequence for takeoffs and landing, causing delays for domestic flights.
