LOS CABOS — RIU has released new images of its 20th resort in Mexico – and its first adults-only hotel in Los Cabos – the Riu Palace Baja California.

RIU says it is taking another step forward in the architecture of its hotels with Riu Palace Baja California, by changing the structure of the spaces, bars and restaurants, to keep sea views front and centre.

Seating Area

As the exclusive vacation provider of RIU Palace Hotels and Resorts, Sunwing offers exclusive RIU-topia perks at the property including welcome cocktails, unlimited reservation-free dining, spa credits and more, in addition to RIU Palace inclusions such as 24-hour room service, daily champagne breakfasts and poolside wait service, for clients booking their vacation package with the Signature Collection by Sunwing.

The all-inclusive new-build Riu Palace Baja California has 602 rooms characterized by pale hues and wood, says RIU, and all rooms offer free WiFi, air conditioning, a complete spirits dispenser and a minibar.

New Rooms

Some 32 rooms have been elevated, which puts Riu Palace Baja California at the top of RIU’s list as one of its hotels with the greatest number of rooms with full sea views, a total of 82.

As a result there’s a raised bridge that covers the plaza and offers a seafront façade with striking views, as well as a tiered water feature with infinity pools, offering a continuous view of the water.

Lower Pool

Riu Palace Baja California, like the newly-opened Riu Palace Costa Mujeres hotel, represents a 180º turnaround in the usual layout of RIU hotels, says the company. The communal areas, restaurants and daytime bars have been raised a level and positioned overlooking the sea for continuous views of Pacific Ocean.

In all the new Riu Palace Baja California has four pools, including two with swim-up bars. Dining venues include main restaurant Promenade and five themed restaurants: Taj Mahal for Indian food, Yu Hi for Japanese, Sofia for Italian, a steakhouse fusion restaurant called Krystal and grill restaurant Pepe’s Food. There’s also a lounge bar and patisserie and ice cream parlour. A Renova Spa and two fully-equipped conference rooms round out the amenities.

The hotel is located in El Médano, along with RIU’s two other hotels in Baja California, Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas and hotel Riu Santa Fe. Guests staying at Riu Palace Baja California can attend Riu Palace’s Cabo San Lucas’ famous pool parties for free. Guests of the new hotel can also dance the night away at Pachá nightclub or have fun at Splash Water World, both of which can be found at hotel Riu Santa Fe and which Riu Palace Baja California guests can visit for free and continue to get all-inclusive service.

With this new launch, RIU now has twenty hotels in Mexico, offering a total of almost 12,000 rooms across Playa del Carmen (six), Cancún (four), Costa Mujeres (two), Los Cabos (three), Riviera Nayarit (three), Mazatlán (one) and Guadalajara (one).

Los Cabos gets some three million visitors annually and is focusing on the luxury market, with a range of room stock across its approximately 17,000 rooms. More than 6,500 rooms are in the all-inclusive category, a category that now includes Riu Palace Baja California.
