TORONTO — Peregrine Adventures is adding West Africa to its Adventure Cruising program in 2019, as the company continues to evolve and expand its cruise brand amidst rapid growth.

After launching in Europe in 2017 and expanding to Asia at the end of this year, Peregrine’s Adventure Cruising product will expand to Africa in 2019, with the latest addition bringing guests to cruise into the wilds of West Africa’s rivers from Senegal to The Gambia.

“Our travellers have responded to a style on the water that is akin to our style on the land – authentic and low-impact travel,” says Peregrine Adventures’ General Manager of Marine Filippos Venetopoulos, adding “these are cruises for travellers who would never normally choose a cruise.”

Peregrine Adventures’ cruising product has grown by 35% this year, with the demand leading to the launch of the West Africa voyage.

Cruising Safari: West Africa is priced from $3,720 for an eight-day adventure cruise first sailing in January 2019. The trip gives travellers “the rare opportunity for animal enthusiasts to witness wildlife from the bow of a small-ship cruise instead of a game truck.”

The cruise sails the Gambia River, with wildlife including chimpanzees, hyenas, crocodiles and sand boa snakes. The journey also includes cultural activities such as spending time in a Gambian family compound, viewing the Wassau Stone Circles, and visiting the historic grounds of Kunteh Kinteh.

Peregrine Adventures adventure cruising tours are operated by small ships with no more than 50 passengers on-board, enabling travellers to visit the small ports that big ships can’t get to and explore little-known towns and villages outside of crowded tourist hotspots. The company continues to carbon offset all trips through a range of renewable energy projects.

At the start of the year the Peregrine exclusive Adventure Cruising trips began to phase out single-use plastics onboard with customers given reusable water bottles and cloth bags to reduce waste.
