Scenic Eclipse delay forces 5 months’ worth of re-bookings

VANCOUVER — Commissions will be protected on re-bookings, says the management team at Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, after announcing that the launch of the brand new Scenic Eclipse has been delayed until late January 2019.

Scenic Founder and Chairman Glen Moroney said construction issues within the shipyard have caused the delay of the ‘World’s First Discovery Yacht’.

The ship was originally scheduled to launch Aug. 31, 2018. With the construction delays the new timeline for the launch is now late January 2019.

“Despite the best efforts of our Scenic Eclipse Build Supervision Team to make up construction time, we are not prepared to compromise the quality of the vessel and potentially impact guest experiences to meet the original late August launch date,” said Moroney.

He said Scenic will provide guests with a full refund for the cost of their Scenic Eclipse cruise and consideration of any other reasonable associated costs incurred with travel plans.

Scenic is also working with its retail partners to mitigate the impact from the delay.
“We recognize the inconvenience this will cause agents and their clients and in addition to the full refund, the Scenic team are committed to working closely with agents and their clients to reschedule their trip to a suitable time for travel within the next two years.”

Scenic will also provide all guests who rebook a Scenic Eclipse voyage during this time a future cruise credit to the value of 25% of the cost of their rebooked cruise, “and agent commission will be protected on all affected bookings.”

Scenic is contacting all travel agents with clients affected by the delay as a matter of priority and will be managed in order of impacted sailing date.

Back in February 2018, buoyed by rocketing demand for expedition cruising and with Scenic Eclipse at the shipyard in Pula, Croatia, Scenic announced plans for Scenic Eclipse II, scheduled for delivery in 2020.

The two ships are similar in design, with 114 all-verandah suites, nine restaurants, eight lounges and bars, a luxury spa, fitness areas, indoor, outdoor and plunge pools, a marina deck, helicopters and a submarine.
