Here is the new schedule for VIA’s Canadian train between Toronto-Vancouver

MONTREAL — There are changes on the way for the Canadian, VIA Rail Canada’s train that travels between Toronto and Vancouver.

Effective July 26, the Canadian’s schedule will be modified for the remainder of the high season ending on Oct. 11, a mid-season modification that was necessary in order to address significant and recurring delays in recent months. The move will also provide passengers a more predictable route, both at departure and on arrival, and allow them to see the changing Canadian landscape during daylight hours.

The new schedule is as follows (in high season only, from May-October):

Westbound schedule (train #1) as of July 26:

Departs Toronto on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10 p.m.
Arrives in Winnipeg at 8 a.m./departs at 10 a.m.
Arrives in Saskatoon at 11:20 p.m.
Arrives in Edmonton at 8:22 a.m./departs at 9:37 a.m.
Arrives in Jasper at 4 p.m./departs at 7:30 p.m.
Arrives in Vancouver at 6 p.m. (instead of 9:42 a.m.) + 4 days

Eastbound schedule (train #2) as of July 27:

Departs Vancouver on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 12 p.m.
Arrives in Jasper at 8 a.m./departs at 10 a.m.
Arrives in Edmonton at 4:20 p.m./departs at 5:19 p.m.
Arrives in Saskatoon at 4:40 a.m.
Arrives in Winnipeg at 7 p.m./departs at 10:30 p.m.
Arrives in Toronto at 2 p.m. (instead of 9:30 a.m.) + 4 days

Since the beginning of peak season in April, the Canadian has been subject to major delays that eventually forced the cancellation of two trips in May. This situation confirmed the necessity for VIA Rail and CN, the owner of the infrastructure, to revise the schedule, said VIA.

In addition, CN has begun work to increase the capacity of its infrastructure in Western Canada, which will improve the flow of its freight and VIA Rail passenger trains.
