WestJet’s latest tearful video highlights importance of organ donation

TORONTO — With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, WestJet is warming hearts across the country with its latest video that urges Canadians to become organ donors.

Partnering with WestJet Cares for Kids charitable partner, the David Foster Foundation, the airline’s four-minute video features 16-year-old Alyssa, a young dancer from Fredericton, New Brunswick and a cancer survivor. At nine years old, Alyssa was diagnosed with heart failure, after which she spent the majority of three years in and out of hospital.

After nearly two years on the transplant waitlist, Alyssa received a new heart at the tender age of 11. To celebrate her triumph, WestJet surprised her and her entire dance class with a surprise visit from Canadian choreographer Blake McGrath.

“This Valentine’s Day, WestJet urges you to watch Alyssa’s story and, like me, share your decision to become a donor and to complete a donor registration card,” said Richard Bartrem, WestJet Vice-President, Marketing communications. “Taking these steps can help more children receive the gift of life so that they can get back to doing what they love. Through WestJet Cares for Kids, we are committed to supporting partners like the David Foster foundation by providing the gift of flight, helping alleviate some of the financial burden that travelling to medical appointments can cause, and ensuring families can be together while their child undergoes a life-saving organ transplant.”
