Windstar to debut new and longer cruises in Asia next fall

SEATTLE — Windstar has ramped up its Asia offerings by adding new sailings in fall 2018.

Its Asia Collection now includes five new sailings, while five additional sailings have been added to its Star Collector Voyages in Asia. Itineraries range from 14-34 days, and all include free daily laundry.

New for next fall, the seven-day ‘Singapore & Siam Holiday’ begins with an overnight stay in Singapore before sailing to Penang, Malaysia where guests can visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site in colonial George Town and ride the Langkawai Gondola to get a bird’s eye view of the rainforest. The itinerary also includes a visit to Ko Yao Noi, Thailand, known for its aquamarine waters and rural villages, as well as an overnight stay in Phuket.

Also new is the seven-day ‘Taste of Siam & Singapore’ New Year’s Eve cruise, which sails from Phuket to Singapore, stopping in Malaysia along the way. Highlights include a visit to Ipoh, the fourth largest city in Malaysia, and a visit to the UNESCO city of Malacca.

The 16-day ‘Aleutians & North Pacific Crossing’ sails between Seward, Alaska and Tokyo, Japan. This cruise emphasizes the less frequented ports of call, and retraces the route of the Russian-America fur trade. Visitors will enjoy sportfishing in Kodiak, kayaking in Sand Point, and visit Dutch Harbor, the only deep-water port in the Aleutians.

While Windstar’s 10-day ‘Grand Japan’ itinerary was originally announced solely for the spring of 2018, Windstar has now added two new fall 2018 sailings on this already wildly popular itinerary. Fall colours promise to be spectacular, along with fewer crowds during this less-visited but no less gorgeous time to explore Japan and South Korea.

For another take on Japan, the 11-day ‘Pop Culture Kings of Asia’ highlights over 17 UNESCO sites. It begins in Tokyo and ends in Beijing, and includes highlights such as Shimizu (home to Mount Fuji), Shiraito Waterfall, Hiroshima and sailing to South Korea where the dormant Hallasan Volcano await.

Also not to be missed is the 11-day ‘Comprehensive China Exploration’, which features overnights in Shanghai, Taipei and Hong Kong. Considered a foodie’s dream come true, guests will sample oyster pancakes in Taiwan’s night markets, eat dim sum in Hong Kong, and sip locally brewed beer in Qingdao. They’ll also enjoy shopping in Old Shanghai and explore the 36 bridges that connect Zhoushan, also known as the ‘Venice of china’.
