This map shows you the cheapest days to buy international plane tickets

TORONTO — Want to save your clients a few bucks? Use this handy map that depicts the cheapest day to buy an international plane ticket to every region around the world.

To pinpoint prime booking dates, CheapAir.com’s latest ‘When to Buy Flights’ study included the analysis of 351,568,000 airfares for 1,098,650 international trips over the last year. For each trip, analysts studied all the possible days you could buy that airline ticket to uncover when fares for international flights are at their lowest.

International flights go on sale approximately 11 months in advance, but according to the study, buying very early can be almost as costly as buying last minute. The sweet spot is buying a ticket somewhere in the middle.

According to the map, travellers heading to Mexico should buy their ticket about 61 days in advance, while Caribbean-bound vacationers should buy a ticket 76 days ahead of their trip. It’s best to buy a ticket to Asia around three months in advance for the best fares, as is to the South Pacific, where cheapest airline tickets are available 89 days before takeoff.
