NCL’s top-deck racetrack has to be seen to be believed

SHANGHAI — In the race between cruise lines to build the biggest and boldest ship amenities, Norwegian Cruise Line has come out on top with – if you can believe it – a Ferrari racetrack.

The soon-to-be-unveiled 3,850-passenger Norwegian Joy, NCL’s first purpose-built ship for the Chinese market, will boast a two-level Ferrari branded competitive racetrack on the top deck in partnership with Scuderia Ferrari Watches. Up to 10 drivers at a time will be able to race each other in electric go-karts and have photos taken at the finish line. In addition, guests of The Haven and Concierge class will enjoy a number of complimentary rides.

This is the first time Ferrari Watches has partnered on a branded go-kart track. Scuderia Ferrari Watches will be featured in a retail store adjacent to the racetrack.

Other over-the-top amenities include an open-air laser tag course, simulator rides, interactive video walls at the Galaxy Pavilion and two multi-storey waterslides. Plus, Norwegian Joy will house an open space park as well as the line’s largest upscale shopping district, complete with duty-free shops and global luxury brands.

Norwegian Joy will be officially delivered on April 27 in Bremerhaven, Germany. She will then set sail for China where she will homeport in Shanghai and Tianjin, following a grand inaugural port tour leading up to a christening ceremony on June 27.
